Performance explores issues faced by women

“Monologues of n Women” is a new Chinese-American devised theater work that dissects the ordeals that many women have faced, such as sexual assault, unrealistic body standards and the rigidity of societal expectations.

According to a press release, Director Christie Zhao is proud to explore the universal question “What is it like to be a woman?” while highlighting specific Chinese experiences.

The story is brought to life by an ensemble of seven Chinese-American actresses through a combination of theater, dance, original music and poetry. Costumes are designed by Tianxing Yan.

“n” represents the math variable meaning many and is commonly used in Chinese speech, according to the release.

Performances are mostly in Mandarin with English subtitle projections included in the staging. The show opens Friday and runs through Sept. 25 at Seattle Center’s Theatre Puget Sound Theater 4, 305 Harrison St.

Tickets range from $15-$50 and can be purchased at monologues-of-n-women.com.
