Community workshops set on police chief search

The Queen Anne Community Center (1901 1st Ave. W.) will host one of 10 community workshops across Seattle this month to gather input on the search for the city's next police chief.

The event, scheduled for March 20 from 6 to 8 p.m., is one of two in the West Precinct, meant to assist the 25-member Police Search Committee with finding the best candidates to fill the role previously held by Kathleen O'Toole, and by Carmen Best since Jan. 1 on an interim basis.

Those who work or live in Seattle can also submit comments through an online community input survey, available at www.surveymonkey.com/r/seattlepolicechief. That survey has already received more than 1,000 responses since it went live.

At the end of the public input process, the committee will narrow the field of applicants, and submit their recommendations to Mayor Jenny Durkan in the coming months.
