Gentle yoga classes in February at local library branches

Throughout the month of February, three local library branches will host free gentle yoga classes for people aged 50 and older.

Registration is required for the classes, all taught by Forrest Yoga certified and Reiki Master Practitioner Rosalie Battah, starting at 3 p.m. on Feb. 7 and 21 at the Ballard branch (5614 22nd Ave. N.W.), Feb. 12 and 26 at the Queen Anne branch (400 W. Garfield St.), and Feb. 14 and 28 at the Magnolia branch (2801 34th Ave. W.). The sessions are spaced so people can attend a full month's worth of free classes if they choose.

The classes are designed to teach participants how to stretch and move with awareness, to increase strength and improve flexibility, balance, and posture.

A short period of meditation will book-end each session, and participants are asked to arrive at least five minutes beforehand. No props — including mats — are needed.

To register for a class, call 206-684-4089 (Ballard), 206-386-4225 (Magnolia), or 206-386-4227 (Queen Anne). Drop-ins are welcome day-of as space allows.
