The following are selected reports from the Seattle Police Department’s West Precinct. They represent the officers’ accounts of the events described.
Stabbed in the Back
At approximately 2:45 a.m. on March 1, police responded to an assault in the 200 block of Eighth Avenue North. The victim said he’d been stabbed in the back, and had a large wound on his upper right back. He said the assault happened at Eighth Avenue North and John Street.
Responding police found a trail of blood that lead from a nearby alley back to an apartment building. The victim was disoriented from his injuries and wasn’t able to give police a good description of the suspect or the assault. Medics from Seattle Fire Department responded and transported the victim to the hospital for treatment.
Fuzzy Memory
Just after 3:30 p.m. on March 5, a police officer on foot was approached by a man who claimed he’d been a victim of a robbery the night before. He said he’d been standing on the sidewalk in front of a store, but couldn’t remember where. He said it was either at Fifth Avenue North and Thomas Street, or somewhere between First Avenue North and Fifth Avenue North. The victim said a man approached him and offered him cigarettes and alcohol. The man then asked him to pitch in to buy some marijuana.
When the victim refused, the suspect grabbed his phone from his hand then reached into his jacket pocket, taking his wallet. The suspect quickly left the area. The victim said his phone was a flip phone. The police officer believed the victim to be confused, as he wasn’t sure where exactly the incident happened, and he wrote an incoherent note that he handed to the officer.
Burglarized Church
At approximately 4:45 p.m. on March 1, police responded to a burglary at a church in the 2000 block of First Avenue North. The employee who reported the burglary said the building was locked at 10 p.m. the night before. When she arrived at 10 a.m. that morning, she found all of the unlocked rooms in the buildings had been rummaged through. She found drawers were left o
pen, cabinets were left open and items were moved around, but didn’t believe anything was taken. She noted that there is an exterior door that doesn’t close all the way so they have to place a broom in it to keep it locked and shut. When she came in this morning she found the broom had been moved
She wasn’t sure how the burglar was able to dislodge the broom. Responding police searched the building for evidence and fingerprints, but didn’t find anything.
Smash and Grab
Just before 10 a.m. on March 1, employees of a marijuana shop in the 1600 block of Dexter Avenue North called 911 to report a burglary occurred overnight. Sometime between 11 p.m. the previous night and 9 a.m. that morning, someone threw a large rock through a front glass display window. The rock broke the glass of an interior display case as well.
The suspect reached inside the display case and took two ‘joint jars,’ jars containing 14 joints each (half an ounce of marijuana each). Employees stated each jar was worth $90. The store manager told police there was surveillance video of the incident.
