Anne Soukup January 9, 1935 - February 5, 2017

Anne Soukup passed away on Sunday morning, February 5, 2017 following a long, hard journey with Alzheimer’s Disease. She died peacefully, at home, surrounded by her family, exactly the way she would have wanted it.  Anne was born in Kankakee, Illinois, also at home, on January 9, 1935.  She lived in Magnolia for over 50 years.
In addition to raising her seven children, and doting on her 14 grandchildren,  Anne had a heart for those in need, especially children and dogs.  She volunteered in many ways her entire life, including in the Briarcliff Elementary School PTA (for which she won a Golden Acorn award!), at her church (Our Lady of Fatima), for AIDS care agencies, at First Place School, and many more! She also housed her daughter’s preschool, Kaleidoscope School, in her basement for 16 years, becoming “Grandma Anne” to the many children who attended over the years.
Anne is survived by her seven children, David (Julie), Mary-Pat (Terri), Daniel (Margaret), Ed, Peter, Jack, and Jakob (Lauren); her beloved grandchildren Rachel, Gannon, Hayden, Kiley, Ben, Maddie, Riley, Dillon, Grace, Aaliyah, Gracie, Kira, Lilli, and Quenten; and her siblings Terry (Anna), Pat, Burma (Rick), and Jim (Jan); and countless good friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Rosemary and Eddie Mathews, her brother, Mike Mathews, and her many well-loved dogs.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Humane Society, or to any cause you feel would honor Anne.
