Seattle Youth Commission seeks District 7 member

The Seattle Youth Commission is seeking a District 7 member, and has extended the application period to Aug. 28 at 5 p.m. to find one.

Students between the ages of 13 and 19 that live or go to school in Seattle are eligible to serve, and are selected for two-year terms. For this opening, that means someone who lives/attends school in Pioneer Square, Downtown, Belltown, First Hall, Queen Anne, or Magnolia.

The commission meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Seattle City Hall (600 Fourth Ave.) in the Boards & Commissions Room (1280). In total, the commission is comprised of 15 teens — one from each City Council district along with eight at-large members — and is meant to connect youth to local elected officials, advise on city policies, and discuss issues that youth in the city are facing.

Interested teens can complete the application at www.seattle.gov/Documents/Departments/SeattleYouthCommission/documents/2017-18_SYC-Application_FINAL.pdf and send it to seattleyouthcommission@seattle.gov. Paper copies can be mailed to (or dropped off at) Seattle City Hall, Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, 600 Fourth Ave., Fourth Floor, Seattle, WA 98124.
