Discover Music in the Park this Sunday

A unique program comes to Discovery Park this weekend, with a free event this Sunday at Discovery Park meant to invite the community to experience music, dance, and nature at Discovery Park.

The program for “Discover Music in the Park,” from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Daybreak Star Cultural Center Upper Field will feature collaborations between local classical music ensembles and dance companies. That includes the Lake Union Civic Orchestra, Khambatta Dance Company, Kaleidoscope Dance Company, Bella Sala String Quartet, and the Seattle Phonographers Union.

The event is funded in part by a Neighborhood Matching Fund award from the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods, in addition to support from 98.1 KING FM, 4 Culture, and Magnolia Rotary. However, organizers are still seeking tax-deductible donations at www.gofundme.com/discovermusicinthepark to cover the remaining costs.

Organizers also see the event as merely the first phase of an effort to establish the Fort Lawton Center for the Arts, utilizing city-owned vacant historic buildings currently on the site for education programs, artist gathering, lodging, rehearsals, and performances.
