Development proposals going unchecked in single-family neighborhoods

Thanks to John Fox, Carolee Colter and the Queen Anne Community Council for pushing back against Mayor Murray’s HALA committee. Runaway housing developments in single-family neighborhoods are sailing through without input from communities. Instead, Mayor Murray offers disdainful comments about the race and age of homeowners who disagree with him.

Bland, bulky boxes without gardens or parking are not attractive or affordable. Density should be increased where transit and parking needs are preplanned and accessible.

The historic identity and character of Queen Anne and other neighborhoods should be preserved for future generations.

Thanks to president, local delegation in Congress for AIDS funding

Great news: the President has pledged to invest up to $4.3 billion in the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria! This is $1 for every $2 pledged by other donors, up to $4.3 billion. This follows on the heels of the entire Washington congressional delegation sending a letter requesting the President to make this investment.  (‘Thanking Washington’s congressional delegation for bipartisan effort’ letter by Willie Dickerson, Queen Anne & Magnolia News, Aug. 3) This investment makes the AIDS free generation possible, along with saving millions of lives. These results are a testament to the great bipartisan work of all Washington State’s representatives and senators, thank you!
