An ex-state Supreme Court justice makes the case for Madsen

In response to, “A conversation with state Supreme Court candidate Greg Zempel,” published on October 4, 2016, I urge you to present a similar interview with the incumbent, Chief Justice Barbara Madsen. I fully endorse Chief Justice Madsen for reelection to the Supreme Court.

As a former Washington State Supreme Court Justice, and having served with Chief Justice Madsen, I contend that she is the most qualified candidate in this race. She has the experience, leadership, temperament, and courage necessary to maintain the Court’s nonpartisan duties and to protect the liberties guaranteed to all Washingtonians.

Justice Madsen has worked tirelessly to improve the administration of justice. She helped establish the nation’s first Access to Justice Board, which has since been replicated in 38 states; the Minority and Justice Commission; the Gender and Justice Commission; the Commission on Children and Foster Care; and the Interpreter Commission. She has been a champion for equal access to justice and a strong advocate for family violence prevention.

With experience as a defense attorney, prosecutor, trial judge, and a Supreme Court Justice, Chief Justice Madsen is clearly the most qualified candidate in this race. I encourage voters to reelect her to the Supreme Court.

Very truly yours,

Justice Bobbe J. Bridge, ret.
