Public meeting with School Board Vice President set for Saturday

Sue Peters, the District IV representative on the Seattle School Board, will host a public meeting at the Queen Anne Library (400 W. Garfield St.) on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The meeting is a chance for families of Coe, John Hay, Lawton, and Queen Anne Elementary, Catharine Blaine K-8, McClure Middle School, and the Center School, to sit down with the Board Vice President prior to discuss issues facing their schools and students, and the district as a whole.

Peters was elected to the School Board for a four-year term in Nov. 2013

TurkFest this weekend

The annual celebration of Turkish culture and heritage is set for this weekend at the Seattle Center Armory.

TurkFest — produced by the Turkish American Cultural Association of Washington (TACAWA) — runs from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free. Attendees will get to experience a slice of Turkish culture, with cooking demonstrations on the Armory stage, a bazaar with authentic foods and refreshments, while goods like carpets and jewelry will be available for purchase.

Sehr-I Seattle, and Vancouver, B.C.-based Istanbul the Band will perform contemporary Turkish music, Janelle Bel Isle, Karavan’s Dance Troupe, and Helene Eriksen will show off a range of Turkish folk dancing.

OSPI candidates square off next week

Early risers will have the chance to hear from the candidates running to become the next Superintendent of Public Instruction at an event at the Seattle Center Armory on Oct. 20.

The Washington Business Alliance will host a forum with Erin Jones and state Rep. Chris Reykdal starting at 7:30 a.m. Doors open at 7 a.m.
