Marie Ellen Henning - October 13, 1921- September 12, 2016

Marie Ellen Hanning passed away peacefully in her home on September 12, 2016 at the age of 94. Marie Ellen Cripe was born October 13, 1921 in Norheim, Blaine County, Montana, the daughter of John Washington and Lillus Pauline (Sturgeon) Cripe. Marie graduated from Havre High School in Havre, Montana and attended Northern Montana College, graduating with a degree in teaching. She taught in a one-room schoolhouse in Montana before marrying and raising her family.  She tutored at Coe Elementary School on Queen Anne for 15 years.

 Marie married William W. Hanning on September 9, 1944 in Havre. She was a resident of Queen Anne Hill for 58 years. Marie loved her family, friends, gardening, reading, and Frank Sinatra.

She is survived by her three daughters: Linda M. Stephens (Roger) of Spokane; Lee E. Nervik-Sonier of Port Orchard; and Anita R. Hanning of Seattle.  She was blessed with four grandchildren: Arron A. Nervik, Elizabeth “Ebo” Hanning-Nilsson (Erik), Stephanie Stephens-Jama (Kayse), and Angela Stephens. Also, three great grandchildren: Emily Stephens, and twins Sahan and Saharla Jama. One brother, George Cripe (Faye) of Tacoma.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband in 1998; one sister, Bonnie Pounder; two brothers, Robert and Roy Cripe; grandson, Arron A. Nervik; and sons-in-law, Ralph Nervik and Bob Sonier.

Marie wished no funeral service, but a memorial luncheon will be held for family.
