West Thomas overpass dedicated to Coney

The Uptown Alliance dedicated the West Thomas Street pedestrian and bicycle overpass to John Coney, founder and a former Alliance president, on May 18.

Deputy Mayor Kate Joncas and City Councilmember Sally Bagshaw were among those in attendance to praise Coney as a visionary for the pedestrian and bicycle bridge, which opened in November 2012.

During a walking tour of Uptown two days earlier, Mayor Ed Murray proclaimed May 16 as John Coney Day.

Coney said he is battling leukemia and will step back from his volunteer positions.
