Seattle Animal Shelter expands hours

Seattle Animal Shelter has expanded its hours to provide more opportunity to adopt animals, redeem lost pets, bring in strays, surrender animals and participate in other shelter activities.

Starting Tuesday, Sept. 9, the shelter is open Tuesday through Sunday, from noon to 6 p.m. The shelter was previously closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

The new hours were made possible in the city’s 2014 budget with the addition of six new positions — three humane law-enforcement officers, two animal-care officers and one administrative support staff — and a foster-care coordinator funded by the shelter’s Help the Animals Fund.

The additional staff allows the shelter to not only provide more services at its Seattle facility but also to increase patrolling of Seattle’s parks and neighborhoods.
