Center School meeting to focus on Monday’s incident

The Center School (305 Harrison St.) will have a meeting for parents and guardians only on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 6:30 p.m. to answer questions regarding the incident on Monday in which a student brought an incendiary device to school.

Pegi McEvoy, assistant superintendent of operations, Jon Halfaker, executive director of schools for the Northwest region and interim principal BiHoa Caldwell will attend the meeting.

Principal Oksana Britsova has been placed on paid administrative leave pending a review of the incident.

The student who brought the incendiary device to school was arrested. The incident prompted an evacuation and the cancellation of classes for the day.

On Tuesday, students met in classrooms to discuss what happened and were able to meet individually with counselors, according to interim Superintendent Larry Nyland.
