The Queen Anne Farmers Market to start with new vendors and extended schedule

The Queen Anne Farmers Market (QAFM) launches its new season Thursday with five additional weeks, an expanded site and more vendors.
Farms returning to Seattle's only independent, community-managed market, include Local Roots, Foraged & Found, Billy's Organics and Alvarez. New this season are Magic Bean, Samish Bay, Jello Mold and Loki. Mobile food vendors include Maximus Minimus, Veraci Pizza and Parfait Ice Cream.
The public is invited to QAFM's season opening celebration at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, May 20, a day dedicated to farmers, chefs and local food producers who make the health and social benefits of farm-to-table eating accessible to Seattle's urban neighborhoods.
One attraction will be an enhanced event schedule. QAFM's Chef Demo Series, sponsored by Albert Lee Appliance, will run weekly and feature some of Seattle's most notable chefs, including Seth Caswell of Emmer & Rye, Ethan Stowell of How to Cook a Wolf and Christina Choi of Nettletown. Teaching demos will provide basic kitchen skills for adults and children, and feature recipes that use fresh produce. Events such as Dog Day, Family Day and the Pie Contest will return, along with the music tent, sponsored by real estate agent Rene Stern. The Seattle folk duo, The Canote Brothers, has signed on for several dates. QAFM credits support from volunteers and local sponsors including Metropolitan Market, Emerald Bay Equity, Queen Anne News, QueenAnneView.com, HomeStreet Bank and Wink Cupcakes (which got its start at QAFM in 2007) for enabling the market to continue.
