SCAT kiosks restored

Anti-tunnel petitioners thought SDOT may have taken them

Earlier this month SCAT petitioners thought the Seattle Department of Transportation had been taking Initiative 101 kiosks set up around town.
During the first week of October, SCAT, or Seattle Citizens Against the Tunnel had noticed kiosks set up in front of nine locations including the U.S. Post Office at 3211 W. McGraw St. and in front of the Bartell Drug store at 1929 Queen Anne Ave. N.
SCAT organizer Elizabeth Campbell confronted SDOT in an e-mail saying, "It occurs to me that your department may have been involved in the removal of SCAT's kiosks." She said more than half of the kiosks were chained and padlocked to sidewalk fixtures. Campbell said the total loss amounted to $540.
Campbell has since added kiosks in front of the Serendipity Cafe at 3222 W. McGraw St., Magnolia Ace Hardware at 420 32nd Ave. W. and in front of the mini mart on Gilman Avenue West.
In an e-mail reply, SDOT's Charice Pennie said it did not take any of the kiosks.
Initiative 101, requires 20,629 valid signatures. It could get on the Seattle ballot by May 2011.[[In-content Ad]]
