Police Blotter 8/5

Down...and out

Early Sunday, July 26, an officer was on his way to another call when he happened upon a crowd in the 3400 block of Gilman Ave. W.

After clearing people from the scene he found a victim lying unconscious in the street next to a "significant" amount of blood. Medics transported the man to Harborview for treatment.

Witnesses stated that the victim had been talking with a white male in his 20s with wavy blond or strawberry hair who suddenly took a swing at him. The suspect left the area before the officer arrived.

Tase me, bro'

Early Monday, July 27, a man armed with a box cutter went to a Queen Anne residence in search of his girlfriend. He pounded on one apartment door (the wrong door), yelling, "I know you're in there." In the commotion, a man from the correct apartment peeked out the door and took off running when he saw the suspect was armed.

The suspect gave chase and, in the 2000 block of W. Bertona, slugged the male victim, knocking him to the ground. A crowd gathered, and officers arrived to take the suspect into custody.

The puncher's demeanor was erratic-veering between talking incoherently and screaming and crying. He claimed he wanted to be "tased" so that he could "feel the pain."

He was booked into King County Jail for investigation of assault and unlawful use of a weapon for intimidation.

Close your doors

On Saturday July 25, in the 3200 block of 15th Ave. W. , a woman was startled when a stranger entered her open door. She told him to leave and then called a friend to come over for extra protection. It's a good thing, because the "guest" returned at 4:30 Sunday morning, kicking and banging on the door.

The friend got the man to leave, following him down the street to the area of 15th and Dravus. Satisfied that he had been successful, he started back for his friend's house. But as he turned around, the suspect came from behind, choking him and pushing him against the overpass railing before hitting him with a brick.

But the victim rallied and shoved the suspect to the ground, where he hit his head. Officers found the suspect in the middle of the road, refusing to answer questions. He did, however, state that he was the one who had been attacked. King County Jail refused to take him in, so he was taken to Harborview for treatment. Placed under guard, he will face investigation of felony assault.

Blemished record

At around 2:30 a.m., Friday, July 24, a woman called 911 from First and Denny to report that an acquaintance had stabbed her with scissors. When officers arrived, medics provided the rest of the story: The stab wounds were pimples.

Threatened

Officers were dispatched to a Queen Anne address to speak with a woman about the violation of a domestic violence no-contact order. The obviously scared 20-year-old victim showed officers a threatening letter from her ex-boyfriend, who is currently incarcerated at the state penitentiary in Walla Walla. She was provided with a case number and advised to contact the courts.

Warned

A convenience store on Queen Anne Ave. N. has been warned not to "over serve" the transient population with fortified alcohol products. Multiple customers have been cited for possession and consumption/open container in public and for urinating in public.

The customers in question are usually already intoxicated when they enter the store for additional beverages.

One of the store's cashiers states that the situation is exacerbated by at least one nearby resident who is willing to buy alcohol on the transients' behalf.

Flattened

Overnight on Wednesday, July 22, unknown persons flattened the tires of cars parked in the Golden Gardens boat launch parking lot. Someone also damaged the pay-parking machine at the same time.

Sneaky

At about noon on Wednesday, July 22, after wisely telling a woman at the door to "go away, I'm not letting you in," a developmentally disabled Queen Anne resident went on with her day.

What she didn't realize was that someone (presumably the woman at the door who had "wanted to use the phone"), had made her way into the main level of the home and stole her wallet.

Shortly afterward, someone used the credit cards for gas and at pawn shops along Aurora Avenue.

Sweet-n-sour seats

Someone poured teriyaki sauce through the open sunroof of a Queen Anne woman's car.

Ding a ling

A Queen-Anne landlord has had to disconnect the doorbell after a month long campaign of harassment from a former tenant who was recently given the boot. He has repeatedly returned to the old building at all hours, ringing the bell and trying to get in. He is now homeless and a chronic alcoholic who loiters on the hill.

Pinot greedio

When a longtime customer wanted to volunteer at an event, the owner of a local wine business approved the plan. At the end of the day, he was surprised that the volunteer declined the standard offer of $25 for her time or a free bottle of wine. But he needn't have worried that she went home empty handed: A large amount of money was missing from the register at the end of her four-hour shift.

Stolen

On Wednesday, July 22, someone stole a man's backpack as he ate a noon meal at Bethany Presbyterian Church.

Tables turned

A 28-year-old Lynwood resident is the registered owner of a "getaway car" used by a man who was masturbating in the woods at Discovery Park on the evening of Tuesday, July 21. Witnesses say they confronted the man, who was staring down women as they jogged by on a trail. They also report that he "seemed scared" when they followed him to his car.
