Magnolia artist's painting selected for Edmonds show

Charlette Haugen, last year's Summer Festival poster artist and Magnolia resident, has been accepted into the Edmonds Arts Festival juried show. Her watercolor painting "At Rest" will be shown at the show on June 17, 18 and 19.

Haugen is a native of Wisconsin and earned bachelor degrees in psychology and interior design from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. She also completed her master's degree in social work at Case Western Reserve University.

She moved to Seattle in 1982 and pursued careers in both interior design for a major bank and as a social worker in mental health and hospital settings (most recently at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center).

Because she has found watercolor painting to be so exciting, Haugen is now focusing full time on her artistic endeavors, turning an avocation into a vocation. She has participated in a number of exhibitions and arts venues and her work has been selected for several juried events.

Haugen's watercolor artwork entitled "Village Vignettes" was selected for the 2004 Magnolia Summer Festival poster and another painting, "Stonewalled," won the People's Choice award at the festival.
