Magnolia’s Catherine E. Carey, a 2013 Garfield High School graduate, was one of a select group of Seattle Public Schools students to win a college-sponsored National Merit Scholarship.
Carey’s great-grandparents began living in Magnolia in the 1940s, and family members have resided in Magnolia for more than seventy years. Her great-grandfather worked at Garfield many years ago.
Carey will attend Colby College in Maine to study environmental science. She will receive the partial scholarship, as well as the Colby Presidential Scholarship for up to four years of undergraduate study there.
