Queen Anne annual Tree Lighting

The Queen Anne Annual Tree Lighting was on Dec. 1 at the Town Square in Queen Anne. Christina Wright and Jeff Brennan provided the music for the evening and 12-year-old Max Chandrasekaran was the emcee for the event.

Magnolia Winterfest lights up Magnolia Garden Center

On Saturday night, Magnolia Winterfest culminated in the annual lighting tradition at the Magnolia Garden Center. The neighborhood gathered for carol singers and a countdown to the lighting of Magnolia’s Christmas Tree. This event is a partnership between the Magnolia Chamber of Commerce and local businesses with the goal of welcoming families and building community.

The Seattle Public Schools welcome new directors

The School Board welcomed their new directors last week. Gina Topp and Evan Briggs were sworn in for their first term along with re-elected Directors Liza Rankin and Lisa Rivera. Brandon Hersey, Michelle Sarju, and Vivian Song Maritz are in the middle of their four-year terms. When the school board zones were redistricted in 2022, Rivera’s District 2 expanded to include Magnolia. She was sworn in by the outgoing District 6 Director, Leslie Harris (not shown in the photo). Rivera said it was an honor to be re-elected and understands the gravity of what will surely be a pivotal year.

The power of social media platforms has saved more than 9,000 animals

I wake up in the middle of the night trying to figure out how to save more dogs and reach more people. We have rescued, rehabbed and rehomed more than 9,000 dogs through a nonprofit I founded called Saving Great Animals. And all I can say is thank goodness for the power of social media.
