Soccer sendoff: Seattle says goodbye to Megan Rapinoe

Friday night was Seattle’s sendoff for a soccer legend. Megan Rapinoe has been dominating women’s soccer for the last 10 years and OL Reign made her last regularly scheduled home game one to remember.

Even though the game ultimately ended with a scoreless tie, the record-breaking crowd enjoyed an exciting evening. Before the game started, they dedicated the game to Rapinoe’s mother Diane and twin sister Rachael and played a tribute video that included some of the greatest names in sports: Billie Jean King, Abbie Wambach, and Magic Johnson. There were signs and posters throughout the stadium, and a billboard card stunt that spelled out THANK YOU MEGAN. The Reign City Riot band wore pink wigs and there were fans wearing No. 15 in every row.

In addition to her career highlights of winning two World Cup championships and an Olympic Gold medal, Rapinoe also helped win equal pay for women’s soccer.
