METHOD Gallery in Pioneer Square is celebrating its 10-year anniversary.
Paula Stokes is a Queen Anne resident and founder of this unique gallery that was built by artists and is run entirely by volunteers. She said it is not a commercial gallery and operates on a very modest budget through generous donations from fellow artists, the public, and grants from organizations like 4Culture. “Method has served, and continues to serve, as an incubator space in which artists can experiment and develop installation-based artwork in a supportive setting,” Stokes said.
In the past ten years, they have presented more than 70 exhibitions by more than 70 artists. Stokes had her own artist success story when her exhibit 1845: Memento Mori, a memorial of the Irish potato famine made up of 1,845 handblown glass potatoes, traveled to Ireland and was acquired by the National Museum of Ireland.
Next week, METHOD Gallery will exhibit their Out-of-the-Box auction items. Sixteen artists were given a wooden box and challenged to unleash their inner imagination and innovation. The results are the one of a kind creations that will be on exhibit at the gallery starting on December 2nd , December 7th during the First Thursday art walk, and at the Winter Gala on December 9th. The public can purchase gala tickets and bid on the works by registering at mehodgallery.com/out-of-the-box.
