The Ballard-based Sea Scout Ship Yankee Clipper #97 will be holding a recruiting event and open house on Thursday, June 22 from 5-7 p.m. The open house will occur at the public dock adjacent to Pacific Fishermen’s Shipyard at the south terminus of 24th Ave. NW in Ballard.
Sea Scout Ship Yankee Clipper #97’s mission is to provide sail training and maritime experiences youth aged 14 to 21. Ship 97 was established in 1930 and is one of the oldest Sea Scout Units in the nation.
Last year, Ship 97 acquired a 44-foot sailboat from the U.S. Naval Academy and is excited to put this asset to good use this year and for many years to come.
Ship 97 is currently preparing for a 10-day summer cruise to the San Juan Islands in August.
