I would like to point out that both the Queen Anne and the Magnolia youth baseball programs depend on around a hundred volunteers, from coaches to umpires to team moms (and dads) to the board of directors. It's true I've stuck around longer than most, but it's not true that I do most of the work (Queen Anne/Magnolia News 4/1/09).
Like the iceberg, I'm the visible part while most of real part goes unseen. There are people who schedule games, get involved in fundraisers, help maintain the fields, update the Web site, order the uniforms, and make certain that the equipment is up to date. And there are more activities. The list is long.
I hope those other volunteers realize that their contributions are just as valuable and important as anything I do. Without them, there would be no organized baseball.
As a community, we are truly blessed with the efforts of all these dedicated people.
So, to all the unnamed volunteers, I salute you. Your picture and story deserves to be in the paper, too.
P.S. Right now I believe we are looking for more umpires, but of course, we welcome help in any area. If anyone wants to volunteer, call me at 284-3994.
