Seattle fastpitch Venom are 2009 14U Metro Champions!

One tournament, one at bat, one pitch, one out at a time has been the Venom mantra this year. Last week, the team was the No. 1 seed going into the Metro Championships.

The Venom lost the first game to the Havoc team of hitters, slappers and bunters. Havoc needed to beat Venom twice and came out swinging in game two to take an 8-4 lead after two innings.

But the Venom ladies slowly came back, according to coach Rick Jewett. Andrea Jewett did not give up and stayed strong on the mound shutting the Havoc out for the remaining five innings. Rachael Cochran, Alex Wilson and Casey Pelz electrified the offense with back-to-back-to-back hits, with two outs, to score the tying and winning runs.

Laura Chopp made two great catches in right and Nora Buker made a fantastic double play at first. Lead-off hitter Alena Kantor was menacing at the plate, scaring her opponents with her power and speed, and Jessica Collins in the two hole, consistently put the ball in play. Brittney Blokker at second base and outfield helped maintain the Venom lead with timely hitting while Genna Peterson hit the ball well and made critical plays at third.
