Scouts on the march to collect food for the needy

If you get a knock on the door soon, it might be a Boy Scout trying to do some good.

The 2009 Scouting for Food event is March 14 and March 21, during which Queen Anne Boy Scouts walk assigned routes in the neighborhood and place door hangers on homes that explain hunger.

They will ask neighbors for food to be left out on their respective porches before 9 a.m., March 21. On that Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon, the Scouts will walk the neighborhood again and gather the food and toiletry donations.

They then get it all boxed up, weighed and deliver it to the Ballard Food Bank.

This year is unique in that the Scouts have also added the Queen Anne Helpline as a beneficiary for toiletries and selected food items.

The 2008 food drive brought in 700 pounds of donations. The goal this year is to exceed 1,000 pounds of donations that can be shared between both organizations.[[In-content Ad]]
