In Tacoma's Proctor neighborhood, a thriving little theatre exists: the Blue Mouse Theatre. In it, second-run movies run and neighbors love attending for $3 a pop. What a deal. And it belongs to the neighborhood. It's still going, too, as is West Seattle's Admiral Theatre, and in Shoreline, the very popular, and somewhat larger second-run house, The Crest.
Queen Anne, and Magnolia for that matter, desperately needs such a place. Such a place would absolutely thrive in either, as each neighborhood is very cohesive and full of like-minded independent shops, which neighbors make a point of supporting. Video Isle owner Craig Wilson likes the idea, but could it be sustainable? Moreover, is there an existing location that could work. Building a new structure is too expensive for such an endeavor. But there are plenty of commercial properties in both neighborhoods that could fit. In May, across the water in Kingston, Peninsula Video owner Craig Smith converted an old fire station into a profitable movie house. Queen Anne and Magnolia is full of adults and children who would patronize such a place, if and when it is realized.[[In-content Ad]]
