Confrontation
A witness saw two men rummaging through luggage in a vehicle, the window of which was shattered at 2:30 p.m. on Sept. 17. The witness approached the car, which was parked on the 500 block of Thomas Street, and told the men to put the luggage back. The men told the witness it was their car, and the witness said she didn't believe them.
One of the men pushed her, they then grabbed the luggage and ran away southbound through an alley. Soon after the people who had rented the car returned and the witness told them what happened. Police were unable to find the suspects.
Garage prowl
On Sept. 16 an unknown suspect gained access to a secure underground parking garage of an apartment building on the 2600 block of 21st Avenue West. The suspect smashed the driver's side rear window of a vehicle and stole a GPS and an iPod at around 4 a.m. There was surveillance video of the crime, however police were unable to get a clear picture of the suspect's face.
Duped
Police responded to a car prowl on the 50 block of West Thomas Street at 2:30 a.m. Sept. 16. The radio report said a man in a black sweatshirt had broken into a car. When they arrived on scene they saw a man in a light gray sweatshirt talking on a cell phone. He told police he was talking to 911, and that a man in a black sweatshirt had broken into his car. He told them to search the scene and that he would wait for them at the 100 block of West Thomas. Police searched and returned less than a minute later, and the man was gone.
A witness said she watched the entire incident from her apartment window, and a man in a light gray sweatshirt had driven up in a red pickup truck behind the vehicle in question. The man in the light gray sweatshirt had broken into the car with a wrench and then ran off when a pedestrian approached.
Police could not find the culprit or the red pick up truck. They also couldn't contact the vehicle owner.
Final Fantasy
A police officer found a man sleeping in his car at 8th Avenue North and Harrison Street at 4:24 a.m. on Sept. 16. The officer awoke the man, who appeared to be drunk, and found a bottle of wine, a flask containing suspected marijuana and a knife the police described as 'a 14 inch long dual-bladed fantasy type weapon.'
The man denied ownership of the items, and allowed police to confiscate them. The man said he was going to walk home, the officer watched him walk north on 8th Avenue North, leaving the keys in the car. The officer locked the car and left the key inside it.
Nicotine fit
Somebody smashed the passenger side window of a car parked on the 3000 block of 14th Avenue West to steal a carton of cigarettes sitting on the seat. The car owner found the damage at 6:30 a.m. Sept. 15.
Wine Theft
Two men shoplifted three bottles of wine worth $13, at 2:11 a.m. on Sept. 15. The wine was stolen from a convenience store on the 700 block of Taylor Avenue North. One man distracted the store clerk while the other pocketed the wine and ran out. The clerk said he recognized the men, as they came into the store every night. Police took surveillance footage of the incident.
In-egg-scusable
At 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 14 police responded to a property damage complaint on the 2900 block of 25th Avenue West. The victim told police that someone had thrown eggs at his sliding glass door. He said that this has been happening every day for the past three weeks, and before that it had been happening a couple of times per week.
Working Alarm
A woman received a call at work at 3 p.m. on Sept. 14 from her neighbor who said her audible burglary alarm had gone off at her house located on the 2500 block of 5th Avenue West. When she got home her door was broken, apparently from being kicked in. However, nothing was missing or damaged inside the house. The woman told police she thinks the alarm scared the burglar off. The neighbor said he heard the alarm, but didn't see the burglar.
Parking Lot Prowler
When the employees of a business arrived at work at 6 a.m. on Sept. 14 they discovered damage to three vehicles that had been parked inside a chain link fence at the location on the 3400 block of Thorndyke Avenue West. A large tractor-trailer, a motor home and a truck had been damaged by a prowler. The hood of the truck was scratched from items that had been thrown on top of it and left there.
Burglary
Police were called to the 3600 block of 22nd Avenue West on reports of a burglary on Sept. 14. Upon arrival, the complainant told the responding officer the apartment was his brother's, but he was living there for the time being. He had left the house at around 8:30 a.m. and arrived at around 5:40 p.m. and noticed the front door was closed but unlocked. He then noticed damage to a window, which he first thought his cat had done. He then saw pry marks on the window.
The only misplaced things inside the apartment were a few boxes of his belongings that had been dumped onto the bed. He couldn't find anything missing, however. Police noticed the window to the apartment next door had pry marks on it as well, and the front door was unlocked. The occupants hadn't arrived home yet, however.
Bloody Thief
A man discovered his car had been broken into at his hotel located on the 400 block of Queen Anne Avenue North. Police arrived at around 12 p.m. on Sept. 13. The car had been parked in the underground garage of the hotel.
Police found dried blood on the driver's seat.
Beer Thief
A man walked out of a grocery store located on the 500 block of Mercer Street without paying for a half case of beer at around 5 a.m. on Sept. 13. The store manager followed him out and got his license plate number. While he was following the thief, a second suspect got into the car. The second suspect had been arguing with a cashier after she tried to buy cigarettes and he requested ID.
Dog Napping
On Sept. 13 a woman told police that she left her dog with a friend while she was on vacation from Aug. 18 until Sept. 2. When she got home she called the friend, who asked to keep the dog a little longer. She told the friend she would pick the dog up Sept. 4, but when she went to the friend's house she was gone.
After numerous attempts to contact the friend, the woman received an e-mail from her friend stating she wanted to keep the dog indefinitely. The woman said no, that she wanted her dog back. The friend said she wanted to keep the dog until the end of September, and that was the last the woman heard from her.
The victim was able to locate an ex-boyfriend of the friend, who had recently been fired and evicted from her apartment. The ex-boyfriend said the suspect told him she was moving to California, and that he had mailed some belongings to her.
Police tried to call the suspect, but couldn't reach her.
