Police responded to the woman's house, which is located in the 1600 block of Fourth Avenue North. The victim told police she suspected five of her checks had been stolen.

The victim said on Feb. 1 she had placed three checks in her outgoing mail: one for $1,344 and two to her bank totaling at $5,012. On Feb. 2 she placed two more checks in the mail: one for $118 and another for $128.

The victim said instead of putting outgoing mail into her mailbox, she hangs it from a clip on her front door. Leaving it in plain view.

On Feb. 4 the $1,344 check was cashed, but on March 8 the company she had written the check to contacted her to tell her they hadn't received the check yet. When she contacted the bank she was given a photocopy of the check that was cashed. Somebody had written over the name of the company it was made out to.

Upon further investigation the victim found out none of her checks had made it to their destinations. None of the others were cashed, and she stopped payment on all of them.

A check for fingerprints was unsuccessful.

The victim said he is the registered owner of the gun but was going to give it as a gift to someone else. The victim had waited to report the incident, because he wanted to check several places where he might have left the missing gun.

At Home Burglary

A police officer was dispatched to a house located in the 2400 block of 36th Avenue West at 10:59 p.m. on March 6 to investigate a burglary.

Upon arrival the officer spoke with the homeowner. He said he had been outside in the front yard doing yard work and his wife was inside the house upstairs on the phone.

Some time between 1 and 2:30 p.m. somebody had come in through the open garage and into the bedroom. The suspect had taken the victim's wallet from his pants and his watch from the dresser.

The victim believes the suspect must have heard his wife upstairs, as nothing else was missing or disturbed. The suspect used one of the victim's credit cards at 2:30 at a grocery store at 16th Avenue West and West Dravus Street. They also used it at a gas station in the 3300 block of West McGraw Street.
