Burning Car
On Dec. 1, an officer responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle parked in the middle of a park located on the 2800 block of First Avenue West at 6:36 a.m. When the officer arrived he noticed smoke coming from inside the car. He opened the door and saw that the vehicle was filled with smoke.
There was nobody inside the car. The officer notified the Seattle Fire Department. The fire department responded, putting out the fire. Firefighters determined the fire was set intentionally. The vehicle was impounded and a hold was put in place for further investigation.
Shed Burglary
A man told police somebody broke into the shed in his backyard and stole the oil burner for his pool sometime between 3 p.m. Nov. 22 and 4 p.m. Nov. 29. The home is located in the 2800 block of 30th Avenue West. The thief damaged a hose during the burglary, which was valued at $200. The suspect pinched off the hose so the oil wouldn't leak.
Holiday Break In
A woman arrived home to her apartment, located in the 30 block of 24th Avenue West, at 4 p.m. on Nov. 30. When she did, she found somebody had broken her living room window with two large rocks. The rocks were still on the living room floor. The carpet in front of the windows was covered with broken glass.
The woman told police she had left her apartment at around 3 p.m. on Nov. 24, and that the home was secure. When she arrived home she did a thorough walk through of the apartment and couldn't find anything missing. She had already contacted her landlord by the time she spoke with police. The landlord was in the process of getting the window replaced.
The victim told responding officers that the estimated cost of replacing the window would be around $500. Officers tried to lift prints off of the rocks, but were unsuccessful.
Break In and Binge
A café and restaurant located next to each other were broken into over the night of Nov. 30 between the hours of 7:20 p.m. and 3:47 a.m. They are located in the 300 block of Harrison Street. A manager at the restaurant spoke with police, and told them staff had been alerted when the premise alarm had been triggered at 3:47 a.m.
Inside the restaurant, police found a half empty bottle of vodka and a half eaten muffin, which had been stolen from the café. Staff at the café told police that the food case had been opened with staff keys, which were in a hiding place. The suspects would have had to have known where the keys were usually hidden. An unknown amount of food was taken from the food case.
Police were able to lift prints from inside the restaurant. Nothing was damaged in the restaurant, and only liquor was taken, which was consumed on the premises. The suspects apparently drank a large amount of the restaurant's alcohol.
There is video surveillance footage of the suspects jumping the counter at the café. A manager at the café told police an ex-employee, who was let go in September, may have been involved.
Open Invitation
A police officer responded to reports of a burglary at a home located on the 3700 block of 26th Place West at 10:44 p.m. on Nov. 30.
The victim told the officer the door to the residence had been left open when his sister left at 3:55 p.m. that afternoon. She arrived home at 10:30 p.m. and found the TV had been taken from the living room.
The victim said he had checked the house and hadn't found anything else missing.
Tool Crime
Police responded to a burglary report at 11:32 a.m. on Dec. 1 at a construction site located in the 300 block of West Roy Street. The man told responding officers that he always leaves his tools locked in a room in a building on the site every night.
When he arrived to work at approximately 8:10 a.m. the morning of Dec. 1, he was preparing to pass out tools to his work crew when he noticed the door to the room had been taken off its hinges. Some of his tools were missing.
The victim told police he didn't believe any members of his work crew had taken the tools, and he didn't give permission to anybody to take or borrow the tools.
He told police the only secure door on site was the one that had been taken off its hinges. He said there was no damage that he had seen on the site.
The responding officers asked the victim if he would like them to try to lift some prints off the door, but he refused, saying that a lot of people had been in and out.
The victim gave police a list of the missing tools: one DeWalt half-inch power drill worth $600, one Milwaukee half-inch power drill worth $300, one impact driver and one charger each worth $350, one rigid nail gun worth $300, one DeWalt nail gun worth $400, one Milwaukee half-inch sawsall, and two Makita power drills.
Stolen Bill
A man reported to police that an unknown suspect had stolen an outgoing bill from his mailbox located in the 1100 block of Evanston Avenue North. The victim also alerted the post office. The theft occurred sometime between 5:50 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Dec. 1.
Apartment Burglary
Officers responded to a report of a robbery at an apartment located in the 200 block of 31st Avenue West at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 20. A man is living in the apartment temporarily while his daughter is receiving medical treatments in the city. He told police he left the apartment at 3 p.m. on Nov. 17 and didn't return until 1 p.m. on Nov. 20.
There were pry marks on the door and door frame. Among the property stolen from the apartment was a laptop and cash that was on the kitchen counter. Police took photographs at the scene that were submitted into evidence.
Car Prowl
A man called police to report his car had been broken into while parked in the 100 block of Fifth Avenue North. Police responded at 9:24 p.m. The victim told officers he parked his 1999 Ford pick-up truck at 4 p.m. in an unsecured parking lot. When he returned at 9 p.m. he noticed the back window of the canopy was broken out. He checked the vehicle and found several personal items missing.
The victim told police he left the car locked with the alarm on. Police checked the vehicle for fingerprints, but were unsuccessful.
Attempted Burglary
The manager of a business called police to report somebody had attempted to break into the business over the night of Nov. 19. Sometime between the hours of 10:30 p.m. on Nov. 19 and 7:30 a.m. on Nov. 20, somebody pried the deadbolt out of the front door of the business, which is located in the 3200 block of 15th Avenue West. The suspects didn't gain entry into the business.[[In-content Ad]]
