Piano men rock lower Queen Anne

Billy Joel, Elton John have a grand time playing the hits spanning four decades

Not only does their music continue to rock listeners young and old, Billy Joel and Elton John have a phenomenal and captivating stage presence.

The two music legends came back to KeyArena Feb. 3 after having to cancel their November shows, but this performance was worth waiting for. The duo performed again, Feb. 6.

The two fed off each other's energy and talent, starting the night performing together and playing each other's songs before moving into individual sets. From the get-go, it was easy to tell they were having just as grand a time as everyone else.

It was a three-hour nostalgic trip, but the best kind because this nostalgia is actually worth revisiting. The duo sang hits like "Your Song," "I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues" and "Candle in the Wind" during the opening and closing sets. They traded verses and smoothly transitioned from one great song to the next.

Elton John performed his solo act first, taking the crowd through a small sampling of his career hits, including "Tiny Dancer," "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" and "Rocket Man." Though not as energetic on stage as Joel, Elton had his moments with the crowd, and of course, the jackets and glasses seem to speak for themselves on some level.

One of the best parts of the night was when the two dueled it out to "The Bitch is Back," taking turns climbing atop the pianos.

Joel interacted with crowd more, even changing his set to cover Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze" at the crowd's suggestion. Elton John's more subdued and melodic voice was well-balanced by Joel's upbeat tunes like "Uptown Girl" and "It's Still Rock 'n' Roll to Me."

Of course, the piano masters ended the night with "Piano Man" - a proper way to celebrate their piano prowess and remind the audience that music like this just doesn't get made anymore. Still in awe from their piano skills and vocal talent, it was undoubtedly a night to remember.[[In-content Ad]]
