If you missed the 30 minute ad put out by Presidential candidate Barack Obama, I urge you to find it online or click the link below. Obama's ad didn't make political jabs at Senator John McCain, he presented issues of finance, energy, education, cost of living through the eyes of the American people.
The strongest point of the 30-minute infomercial came when Senator Obama said he was shaped more by the absence of his father than his presence. So Obama's mother took on the role of both mother and father. She would wake her son at 4:30 in the morning to make sure his lessons were finished. Obama presented a personal and touching aspect to how politics are shaped by people. And how people need hope when our country is going through a difficult time.
Obama said during his announcement speech in February 2007, "I'm reminded every single day that I am not a perfect man. I will not be a perfect president. But I can promise you this. I will always tell you what I think, and where I stand. I will always be honest with you about the challenges we face. I will listen to you when we disagree. And most importantly, I will open the doors of government and ask you to be involved in your own democracy again."
Transparency, honesty, and forthrightness is something the Bush administration has failed to deliver to the American people for the last eight years. As citizens, we've been lied to and fed excuse after excuse. What will make another candidate from the same Republican party any different?
This is not to say that the Democratic party is perfect, but Barack Obama has mobilized the hopes of people for a better future if he becomes the next president. Obama's right, we don't need a perfect president. We need a president who will listen. We need a president who will remember who put him in the White House.
