More change has arrived for Queen Anne and Magnolia schools with the appointments of new principals at John Hay Elementary, Coe Elementary and The Center School for fall 2010.
Seattle Public Schools announced the changes Jan. 11. Queen Anne has the most changes. In a school district news release, Superintendent Maria Goodloe-Johnson announced Green Lake Elementary Principal Cheryl Grinager will become principal at McDonald Elementary; Coe Elementary Principal David Elliott will be the new principal at Old Hay School, and John Hay Principal Dan Warren will become principal at Sand Point Elementary.
Elliott has been Coe Elementary's principal for 10 years. He will now oversee the start of Old Hay as an option school at the interim site of former Lincoln High School in 2010. The space will be shared for a year with McDonald Elementary before returning to the renovated Old Hay building in fall of 2011.
Principal Warren has been at John Hay for five years. In a letter to John Hay families, Warren wrote, "My time at John Hay far exceeding my expectations ... I have felt tremendous support from families, staff and the community."
But the opportunity to reopen a new school from scratch was appealing, Warren said.
"I'm looking forward to using the lessons I've learned at John Hay," Warren wrote, "and applying them in the creation of an entirely new and different school."
The changes appear to be motivated by the district to ensure the success of these reopened schools that are basically starting from scratch.
In the release, Goodloe-Johnson said, "I am excited to announce the appointment of three experienced, trusted leaders, who will work closely with the educational program design teams for each of these schools ... I am confident the principals appointed will lead these schools to ensure a great start in the 2010-11 school year."
