Mecklenburg wins Bullitt award

Sue Mecklenburg was honored last night with the Dorothy Stimson Bullitt Community Service Award for her contribution to the community as part of the Junior League of Seattle's (JLS) annual May Celebration.

This award is given each year to a member in recognition of outstanding achievements in the area of community service.

Mecklenburg credited the Junior League of Seattle for introducing her to a cooperative project between the JLS, the City of Seattle, and Metrocenter YMCA that came to be known as Seattle KidsPlace.

Professionally, she translated her voluntarism skills into being named Starbucks Coffee Co.'s first environmental affairs director where she helped launch the Starbucks Foundation and brokered partnerships with the Environmental Defense Fund, among others.

"I had been concerned that my volunteer experience might not be relevant in a corporate setting, to my surprise, I use my Junior League experience everyday," Mecklenburg said."[[In-content Ad]]
