The Met Market bats were hot last week and the home team Checkers were out for redemption as they beat Ken's convincingly 12-2.
The Met Market offense started slowly. In the bottom of the first, Met's three first batters saw a total of six pitches as they each hit into unassisted putouts at first.
The first big blow was delivered off the bat of outfielder Adam Schooler-Reed in the second. Joe Volk singled with one out. Lucas Ford walked moving Volk to second. Schooler-Reed nailed a two-two fastball to right for a double scoring Volk and Ford.
"Their starter had good control so you knew he was going to be around the plate," said Schooler-Reed. "The sun out there (in right field) can be tough so it was a good place to hit the ball. Well, it's a good thing the sun came out period. The grounds crew (Pete Livengood) did a fantastic job on the field to allow the game to be played."
Met exploded in the fifth scoring seven times putting the game out of reach. They brought thirteen young men to the plate with the big blow coming off the bat of infielder Nick Nishi. With the bases loaded, Nishi belted a long single to right center clearing the bases.
In addition to hot bats, Met Market's speed resulted in a run. Andy Cline ripped a line drive single to center then stole second on the next pitch. He then stole third and scored on an errant throw.
Met starting pitcher Davis Lohman set the tone early by allowing only one hit through four innings on just fifty-four pitches. Drew Higgins pitched the last two and was equally effective.
Jake Cameron and Higgins paced Met Market with two solid hits each, and Lohman earned the victory.
Met next visits Albert Lee of Magnolia on Saturday.
