[Regarding the letter “Church of Scientology Doing Good Work,” Nov. 20:] I was astonished to read your article about the “church” of $cientology — a “church” in name only, simply because the IRS tired of their multimillion-dollar, decade-long legal battle to have the “church” pay several billion in back taxes and granted them tax exempt status.
This “church,” to quote Operation Clambake at www.xenu.net, is, in fact ,”a vicious and dangerous cult that masquerades as a religion” which ruins lives and families by teaching its “members” a policy of “disconnection,” which makes them disconnect from their family and friends and lie to them in response to any of their questions about the “church,” which exists for the sole purpose of defrauding the ignorantly credulous like [letter author] Janie Stoner out of hundreds of thousands of dollars by forcing their “members” to take rubbish “courses” to progress up the “bridge” to an “Operating Thetan” (OT8), which they falsely claim are ‘‘eternal spiritual beings capable of telepathy and telekinesis,’’ which can control their physical environment and all of the people in it with their minds.
And you imagine yourselves to be journalists who serve our community? Shame on you!
