Leo Blashko: A man about town

Leo Blashko passed away Jan. 2, at the age of 92. He was born Nov. 19, 1917, to Marx and Esther Blashko in Seattle. He was a graduate of Garfield High School.

During World War II, Mr. Blashko served in the South Pacific, where he was stationed in the Philippines and Japan. Afterward, he moved to California where he studied acting at the University of Southern California. His passion for the theater, and especially comedic acting, continued through his long life.

Later, Mr. Blashko returned to Seattle and was employed by the Bon Marché department store, where he worked for more than 30 years. He enjoyed meeting new people every day and used his sparkling personality and offbeat jokes to brighten the lives of those around him. Mr. Blashko was a dapper dresser and was known as a man-about-town.

Mr. Blashko enjoyed sightseeing, and traveled extensively throughout the West. He knew his home city of Seattle with particular detail, and enjoyed sharing its beauty with family and friends. He was a resident of Magnolia since 1970.

Three years ago, Mr. Blashko moved to Walnut Creek, Calif., to be closer to relatives. He had a talent for making many friends wherever he went, and his new community was no exception. Mr. Blashko was warm and friendly with everyone he met. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Mr. Blashko is preceded in death by his sister, Beccy Blashko. He is survived by his sister, Sara Alchermes, and brother, Abe Blashko, as well as his niece, Adria Schwartz, and great nieces, Allison and Julia Schwartz.
