Jacqueline Hansen Brooks-renowned artist and friend

Longtime Queen Anne resident Jackie Brooks was born Feb. 26, 1935, in Irene, S.D., to Arthur and Myrtle (Rosser) Hansen, and grew up in Longview, Wash. She died July 17, in Seattle.
Ms. Brooks was preceded in death by her husband, David, in 2002 and is survived by her sons, Jeffrey (Allison), Seattle; and Arthur (Ester), Chevy Chase, M.D.; grandchildren David, Emma, Joaquim, Carlos and Marina; sister Virginia (Robert) Riggs, Redmond, Ore.; brother David (Bobbie) Hansen, Portland, Ore.; and their families.
With her husband, who was a professor at Seattle Pacific University, and their sons, she moved to Queen Anne in 1967. She lived most recently at Queen Anne Manor.
Ms. Brooks was an award-winning artist who specialized in watercolor and had an unusual ability to capture the emotional core of her visions, especially musical ones.
Her paintings were included in more than 80 national and international art shows, and she was a signature member of six watercolor societies.
Her home on Queen Anne Avenue became a gathering place for artists and art lovers, and was packed to the rafters with her (and others') paintings.
Today, her paintings add beauty to rooms all over the world, including inside Queen Anne's Rafael Carrabba Violins.
Ms. Brooks was also a violinist and played in the Cascade Symphony Orchestra for more than 20 years.
She earned degrees in music education (1957) and art (1982) from Seattle Pacific University.
A service in Ms. Brooks' memory will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 17, at Seattle First Baptist Church, 1111 Harvard Ave. Memorial gifts may be made to Seattle Pacific University, Division of Fine and Performing Arts, 3307 3rd Ave. W., Seattle, Wa., 98119.[[In-content Ad]]
