Bellevue cellist Olivia Marckx, 13, and Arlington violinist Sarah Hall, 18, were named the 2013 winners of KING-FM’s Young Artist Awards for 2013.
The competition supports emerging young musicians in the region, in partnership with Seattle Chamber Music Society.
Both Hall and Marckx will perform in a special live broadcast on “NW Focus Live” in Friday, May 24, at 8 p.m. on 98.1 FM. Hall’s performance on the violin and Marckx’s cello performance may be viewed on-line at www.KING.org.
More than 70 youths around the Puget Sound region entered the competition. Nine nationally renowned judges and a vote from the public on-line determined the winning students out of 11 finalists.
The competition was in two categories (ages 6 to 13 and 14 to 20) and included non-professional acoustic instrumentalists, vocalists and chamber groups of up to nine people.
