Northwest Kidney Centers will hold a free

open house Thursday, Sept. 24, at its new state-of-the-art Seattle Kidney Center at 548 15th Ave. The public is invited to enjoy tours, refreshments and a kidney-healthy cooking demonstration from 1 to 3 p.m. A brief program begins at 1:30 p.m. Complimentary parking for the event is available in the Swedish Medical Center/Cherry Hill campus garage (511 16th Ave.), courtesy of the Sabey Corp. The League of Women Voters of Seattle

Who should be running our schools, our prisons, our parks and our highways? Who should pay? The LWVS will debate this during its montly forum 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 10 at the Seattle First Baptist Church, 1111 Harvard Ave. The forum is free and open to the public. Urban Soup event to benefit shelter

An all-you-can-eat lunch to benefit families at Seattle's Sacred Heart Shelter will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 9 at the Plymouth Church, at Sixth Avenue and University streets. The cost is $15. Sacred Heart Shelter's annual downtown lunch is the perfect opportunity for Seattleites to contribute to women and children in need on their lunch breaks.

Crab Feed to help sight/hearing impaired

The Ballard Lions is holding its annual crab feed fundraising dinner to benefit the Ballard Community 6 to 9 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 17 at the Shilshole Bay Beach Club in teh ballard ELKS facility at 6411 Seaview Ave. NW.
