The Urban Coyote
Join Denny Ryan for a talk about coyotes and their not-so-secret city lives. Learn about the behavior, biology and habitat of coyotes. Find out why they have been able to adapt to urban life unlike many other predators. What you need to know to avoid conflicts with coyotes and keep your pet safe. Explore the relationship between wolves and dogs. Ask questions and share stories. Denny is a nature correspondent who writes the 'Knowing Nature with Denny' blog online at www.gotodenny.com. From Backyards to the Cascade Crest: Cougar Ecology and Behavior in Western Washington
Join Brian Kertson, wildlife scientist, as he shares facets of cougar ecology and behavior with research findings and exciting stories from his first-hand experience with cougars. The talk will be combined with hands-on opportunities to touch cougar pelts and view skulls and tracks of our elusive cats. Kertson is a wildlife scientist and doctorate candidate with the Washington Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit and University of Washington. Kertson has 10 years of experience conducting intensive, field-based research on cougar ecology and behavior on both the western and eastern slopes of the Cascade Mountains. His current research uses Global Positioning System (GPS) radio collars to examine the potential influences of cougar demographic characteristics and landscape features on cougar-human interaction in western Washington. The event is at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, March 6. A $5 donation is requested to fund programs at Discovery Park.

in Magnolia to assist in April. The 20th Annual Spring Rebuilding Day will be Saturday, April 24.
