Osprey nesting tower is removed

It is a sad day for Magnolia residents who have grown fond of the Osprey who have nested for the past three years on the BNSF railroad bridge that crosses the Ship Canal and links Ballard and Magnolia.

John T. Williams is remembered at totem pole raising ceremony at Seattle Center

 In a festive, almost carnival like atmosphere, a crowd of about 100 people strained up Western Avenue as they carried a 2,500-pound totem pole, carved in memory of slain Native American woodcarver John T. Williams.    The group of mainly Native Americans carried the totem pole from Pier 57 on the waterfront to Seattle Center, where it was raised near the foot of the Space Needle.

Mary Sherhart first fell under the spell of Balkan music back in 1970 when she saw Koleda, a Seattle-based folk troupe that was performing at the Moore Theater. It was a life-changing moment for the troubled teen who would end up facing many family tragedies over the years.
