Solarize Magnolia holds Saturday workshop

Trip to Bountiful both contemporary and sweet

Having never seen the 1985 film version and knowing little outside of a brief plot outline, I attended ACT's season opener "The Trip to Bountiful" with the expectation that I would pass a pleasant evening viewing a sentimental old chestnut. I was only half right. Horton Foote's 1953 play takes place in a world peopled by characters who are basically decent, and the play succeeds in stimulating the waterworks as witnessed by damp eyes and sniffling in the audience. But it is no old chestnut.
