As has become custom, local children are again starring in this year's "The Nutcracker" presented by the Pacific Northwest Ballet.

The Center School's production class will put on their rendition of "The Man Who Came to Dinner" at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday at the Center House Theatre.Molly Prichard, the Center School teacher running the show, described this 75-year-old play as "kind of a classic of American theater."

While watching "The Company Men" I kept wondering, what point was writer-director John Wells trying to make? Are we supposed to feel sad for the hardship that the three characters in this movie face? But then feel happy for the comebacks they make at the end? The reading I got from it was pretentious and arrogant businessmen getting knocked down a peg in the 2008 financial recession. Having to hand in their luxuries like Porsches and private jets for average living. Big deal.

"A Christmas Story, the Musical" Is Over the Top

The 1983 film "A Christmas Story," based on the semi-autobiographical stories of raconteur and radio personality Jean Shepherd's childhood in 1940s Hammond, Ind., has become an annual holiday staple for many fans. Opening at the Fifth Avenue Theater last week was a revamping of the 2006 musical version of the movie (More songs! More dances! More cast members!) that is being test marketed in Seattle in hopes of eventually opening on Broadway.

Unwanted AttentionThe manager of a store located in the 1600 block of West Dravus Street called police at about 3:55 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 29 to report a man was pacing in front of the store screaming to people on the street and in the store. Police have dealt with this man at this particular store in the past.

Seattle Public Schools' student reassignment plan has been in effect since the 2010-11 school year began. Its primary goal is to have students attend those schools closest to their homes, which would save the district money on bus-transit costs and theoretically provide more opportunity for parents to participate in their children's education.
