New Magnolia chorale director

A family affair

GREEK FAMILY OPENS NEW QA RESTAURANT Lee Agelopoulos has been in the restaurant business for more than three decades, the last 19 years of which has been in the Puget Sound area. A 'wow' of a week in Denver

It was truly an honor for us to represent the 36th Legislative District as Obama Delegates at the Democratic National Convention in Denver. Spending the week with Democrats from across the country was incredibly exciting as well as intense. We went to the convention absolutely committed to Sen. Obama and his message of change, and left even more inspired and convinced of the importance of winning this election. What follow are some of our observations and experiences.

A jail coming to a site near you - or not

Seattle bureaucrats are in the process of determining where those jailed for misdemeanors will be serving time. Currently the city's inmates are in the county jail under a city - county contract. The county's felon population is growing so it is running out of room to house prisoners from other jurisdictions. Seattle and other cities within King County boundaries received notice that they will have to make other arrangements by at least 2012, although there could be an extension.

How to totally obliterate a nice park walk

At least once a week, two of my oldest Seattle friends - I met them both at a 1992 lower Queen Anne party to announce the engagement of Olga Sanchez, a pretty actress who worked here for years before moving to Portland - and I take a walk around Green Lake.

Act in the face of Western downfall

If you go to a large retail store, odds are there will be little to no meaningful customer service that goes with it. Try going to Costco and using a debit card at the snack counter or asking the staffers slinging pizza slices and smoothies to give you two plastic cups for a smoothie. The staffer answer to the latter will be: "They won't let us do that. I don't know why."

McClure water pipes replaced

All of the water lines were replaced this summer at McClure Middle School as part of the Seattle School District's efforts to eliminate lead contamination in the schools' drinking fountains.

Balky siren at armory repaired

Queen Anne resident Karen Fleming woke up at 4 a.m. Aug. 21 to the piercing sound of a siren going off and called 911 to complain. Police explained that the siren was located in the National Guard Armory in Interbay, she said.

"Pat" Korda, teacher and mom

Kathryn Patricia "Pat" Korda passed away July 4, at the Norse Home at the age of 90. She was born July 23, 1917 in Buhl, Minn. to Edward and Emma Murphy. She graduated from Hibbing High School in 1935 and received her teaching, home economics and science degree from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn. She married Louis Korda in Morgan Park, Minn. in 1946 and moved to Seattle, living on Queen Anne Hill for 55 years.

Arthur Lampkin, helped others

Born Sept. 28, 1909 in Redwood City, Calif., Arthur W. Lampkin is survived by his daughter, Sue, and son-in-law, Jim Bogdan, four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. Art moved to Newport Beach to be closer to his family Scott and Laura Bogdan, Jeff and Nicole Bogdan. He loved being with them and their families.
