Port to hold hearing about proposed land exchange

The Port of Seattle will hold a public hearing to consider a proposed land exchange with the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) during the regular meeting of the Port of Seattle Commission on Tuesday, Aug. 26, at 4 p.m. in the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in the Airport Office Building, International Auditorium, Mezzanine Level South, Main Terminal, SeaTac, Washington.

Summer's bounty

With the summer's garden resplendent profusion, it becomes difficult to even contemplate scarcity, and yet for many people their cupboards are not full. Oftentimes we think of food banks as being services for "those" people who are down on their luck, out of work, or just not being a viable part of our workaholic society. This is an incorrect perception. Many working families have to rely on food banks for their survival and sustenance. Additionally, due to the current high cost of food and fuel, our gardens' seasonable cornucopia is not reflected in the larders of our dedicated charities that have been the safety net for deflecting hunger.

Erin Ford of The Dalles, Ore., claimed victory in front of more than 4,000 women participating in the Danskin Women's Triathlon held at Genesee Park on Sunday morning. Ford's finishing time of 1:02:08 was more than three minutes faster than her closest competitor, Teresa Nelson from Seattle, who finished with a time of 1:05:56.
