Pacific Science Center’s “Star Wars:  Where Science Meet Imagination” exhibit running March 19 through May 8, probes the gap between existing technologies and the “Star Wars” world, with a frank admission that we’ve got a long way to go before acres of cloned infantry or sentient androids march past.

Ron Howard’s “The Dilemma” is a buddy comedy, pure and simple. Though it’s not a buddy comedy in the way “The Hangover” or “Hot Tub Time Machine” is. The main characters don’t go on any crazy antics, or talk about sex while shouting the f-word in every other sentence. They act normally and deal with regular life problems.

Planning for Magnolia Manor Park begins

Sustainable Magnolia, a local group committed to promoting sustainability at the community level, has received a $20,000 award from the Department of Neighborhoods (DON) through its Small and Simple matching grant program to fund a community-driven project entitled ”Envisioning a Vibrant Community Gathering Place for Magnolia Manor Park.”

Queen Anne fundraiser brings Alzheimer's issue to new audience

It is estimated that 110,000 people in Washington state suffer from Alzheimer’s disease or some form of related dementia.  If that figure isn’t worrisome enough, 5,000 to 11,000 of those individuals suffer from what is known as early onset Alzheimer’s or dementia. While it is common to think of Alzheimer’s as a disease that afflicts only the elderly, the truth is that increasingly younger people are being affected by the condition.

Manor Park Plans taking shape

Magnolia’s Manor Park subcommittee is looking for a few good friends. As plans for Manor Park continue to develop, the organization in charge of planning the park is looking for local residents to be part of a new committee that will help continue shepherding the process toward completion. The new committee will be known as the Friends of Manor Park. Come to the next Magnolia Manor Park meeting, April 9, at 10 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church, the corner of West Dravus and 28th Avenue West.

Ann Karis has been driving with Senior Services’ Volunteer Transportation Program in Magnolia and Queen Anne since 1990.  In addition to spending her time with St. Demetrios Greek Church and on golf courses, she enjoys volunteering with seniors.

Sculptor John Leglar’s latest work is almost ready for prime time.  Leglar, 40, who is a Magnolia resident, has spent much of the past five months outside carving by hand historical scenes and landmarks from Magnolia into a panel of Texas limestone.
