PPC papers win awards for writing, design

Pacific Publishing Co.’s newspapers fared well in the 2012 Washington Newspaper Publishers Association’s Better Newspaper Contest. Former Queen Anne/Magnolia News editor Jeff Bond won two awards for his writing. “Landslide Lessons Learned” earned first place for Best Environmental Story, and “The Lewis Family Finds Happiness in Their Pies” placed third for Best Business Story.

What in the name of Ichabod Crane has happened to Halloween? Last year, only three houses on my block displayed the universal beacons of free candy on Oct. 31: a jack-o’-lantern and a lit front-porch light. Do kids in Seattle even go trick-or-treating?

Pottery Northwest displays work from three countries

The opening-night reception for “UN-WEDGED 2012,” an exhibit of 21 artists from the United States, Canada and Mexico, is set for Saturday, Nov. 3, at 6 p.m. at Pottery Northwest, 226 First Ave. N. The show will run through Nov. 3

Magnolia Theater School of Drama tries on Cinderella

E.J. Knoll will play Prince Charming and Haley Guinasso will be Cinderella in the Magnolia Theater School of Drama’s production of “Cinderella,” which opens Nov. 8 at 4 p.m. at Magnolia United Church of Christ, 3555 W. McGraw St.
