Taxi punchAt 1:50 a.m. on Oct. 14 police responded to reports of a taxi driver fighting with a passenger in front of a store located in the 300 block of Denny Way.

Magnolia Historical Society commissions sculptor

In commemoration of The Magnolia Historical Society's 10th anniversary, in April of 2011, the society has commissioned sculptor John Leglar, a Magnolia resident, to produce stonework, which will be on permanent display in the Magnolia Village.

Parents and students voiced concerns about possible changes aimed at easing crowding in Seattle's public schools. School board representatives presented their proposed new student assignment plan during a public meeting Monday night at Garfield High School.

Lock Your Doors A Magnolia woman called police on Sunday, Nov. 7 to report her home, located in the 2200 block of Viewmont Way West, had been broken into. The unknown suspect had come in through an unlocked side door. The event took place some time between 2 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Early last week, Mayor Mike McGinn announced his proposal to build a temporary yet long-term structure - complete with office space and eating facilities - on the site for the former Sunny Jim peanut butter plant along Airport Way South in the SoDo area by March 2011.

Another rancorous Election Day has come and gone, and our country remains as politically divided (some historians would argue) as at any time since the Civil War. Maybe if the leaders of both political parties would pause and reflect on the significance of another day in November, Veterans Day, they might find an issue to agree working on together immediately: helping our hurting military veterans.

Well, the local 2010 general election votes are counted - whoops, wait, here's a couple more ballots. OK, now they're all counted. And what did we learn? Mostly, that voters, taken as a collective body, can be idiots.

Bus routes for Metro on Monday

Due to the potential for snow during the morning commute, King County Metro Transit will start service on Monday with buses in all areas on snow routing. Bus riders should check  www.kingcounty.gov/metro/snow for the most current status of Metro service before traveling on Monday. Updates to the online information will begin at 4 a.m.

New place to play at Lawton

Thanks to the Parks and Green Spaces Levy, Lawton Park at 3843 26th Ave. W., adjacent to Lawton Elementary School, was awarded $300,000, which was used to renovate park grounds and its weatherworn playground. The land has been graded and there are two play levels that include swings, a slide and climbing stations for kids of all sizes.

Drughead bustedPolice responded to a call from the loss prevention office of a retail store located in the 200 block of Yale Avenue North at 8:47 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 8. The loss prevention officers told police there was a shoplifter resisting arrest.
