Seattle City Light's work to rebuild the electrical system at Seattle Center requires a planned outage at 11 p.m., tonight until 7 a.m., Friday Sept. 10.

Car ProwlA woman called police at 10:18 p.m. on Aug. 30 to report her car had been broken into. The vehicle had been parked in the secured parking garage of the victim's apartment building located in the 1200 block of Dexter Avenue North.

In a city full of dichotomies, it is fitting that a music festival named "Bumbershoot" (aka "umbrella") would be held outdoors, in the rainiest city of them all, Seattle. This is a city where people wear socks with sandals, sweatshirts with shorts, flip flops in the snow. Bumbershoot, like Seattleites, laughs in the face of bad weather and embraces it with a steely nonchalance that one only finds in the Northwest.

Let me say up front I understand why local police forces are trigger happy recently -- four shootings of mostly unarmed citizens from here to Pierce County -- just say Maurice Clemmons, who killed four Lakewood cops, and Christopher Monfort, who murdered a Seattle officer while the officer sat in his patrol car. Teachers union ratifies labor contract with Seattle Schools

Seattle Public Schools Superintendent Maria L. Goodloe-Johnson, and leadership with the Seattle teachers union announced a tentative agreement on a three-year labor contract for certificated staff. The contract covers school years 2010-2011 through 2012-2013.

Supposed UW student was rude to neighbor

A Queen Anne hill neighbor reported a strange man had come to her door yesterday afternoon and began rambling about his college experience and then began insulting the neighbor.
